Wolves fans fume ‘we deserve to go down’ after humiliating own goal

WOLVES fans were left furious after seeing their side concede a comical own goal against Ipswich.

Pressure has increased on manager Gary O'Neil with the club in the bottom three after successive defeats to strugglers Everton and West Ham.

And just minutes after their relegation six-point goal against Ipswich, their players were left red-faced after a disaster of errors.

First defender Nelson Semedo failed to deal with a long ball over the top and Liam Delap squeezed the ball off his toe.

The striker darted into the penalty area, beat Semedo with a piece of craftsmanship and found teammate Omari Hutchinson, whose shot was brilliantly blocked on the line by Matt Doherty.

But Wolves failed to clear and Conor Chaplin collected the ball on the edge of the penalty area and fired home.

The ball was blocked straight into Doherty's back by Toti Gomes and bounced into the net, causing an uproar among Wolves fans.

Fans denounced the 'embarrassing' turn of play with Wolves now responsible for a quarter of the 12 goals conceded in the Premier League this season.

One fan said: “Embarrassing actually, we deserve to go down.”

Another added: “God this team is miserable seeing us being so bad at defending. I don't see us coming back from this and might as well let us down now.”

A third wrote: “What a ridiculous own goal.”

And another said: “Lol from a long suffering Wolves fan.”

Wolves managed to get back into the game thanks to Matheus Cunha.

However, a Jack Taylor goal in the 94th minute gave Ipswich all three points and left O'Neil's job hanging by a thread.
