Wolves plan permanent memorial to Diogo Jota in tribute to forward following his death in car crash

Wolves have unveiled plans to install a permanent memorial as a tribute to Diogo Jota after his death of 28 years earlier this month.

Jota and his brother Andre Silva, 25, were killed on July 3 in a car accident in North Spain in an accident that sent millions into mourning.

The Portuguese wing player, who was part of Liverpool's Premier League winning side last season, scored 131 performances for Wolves and scored 44 goals during a three-year period at the club after initially on loan of FC Porto in 2017.

'The club is really grateful for anyone who has visited to express their respect, and to those who have left messages, shirts, scarves and flowers in the memory of Diogo. The outpouring of love has been a source of comfort for anyone who knew him.

'With the prediction of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the coming days, the staff started carefully removed and storing items from the tribute area to protect them against damage.

'Supporters are encouraged to visit on Monday, July 14 if they want to view the tribute before the expected weather conditions.

'All non-permanent items will be stored carefully and will be retained for possible admission to a more permanent monument, which the club is now investigating as a permanent way to honor Diogo and Andre.

'Flower tribute will also be collected and converted into colored ink, which can then be used as part of a customized artworks or tribute. Further details are shared once the plans are confirmed. '

After Liverpool tributed to Jota in their pre-season-friendly friendship against Preston on Sunday, Wolves announced plans to do the same in their last home-friendly before the Premier League season of 2025-26 starts, where they will still plan a tribute.

The statement added: 'The death of Diogo and André will also be marked on two of the upcoming home fixtures of Wolves – the last home -friendly against Celta Vigo and the opening of the Premier League match against Manchester City.

During the victory of Liverpool at Preston, Spits Darwin Nunez fought Jota by copying his parties after scoring the second goal of the Reds in a 3-1 win.
