WSL: Manchester City Women part ways with head coach Gareth Taylor after five years, with Nick Cushing taking interim role

Women in Manchester City have a divorced group of head coach Gareth Taylor.

The departure of Taylor comes a day after he led his side to a 2-0 FA Cup quarterfinals victory against Aston Villa to set up a semi-final against Holders Manchester United. City is fourth in the Women's Super League, one point behind the third Arsenal that played one more match.

The 52-year-old was in charge of the club since 2020 and led City to a FA Cup victory in 2020 and Competition Cup-Cers in 2022. Under Taylor City missed the title of 2023/24 for Chelsea on target difference.

Ex-man City Women Coach Nick Cushing will follow Taylor on an interim basis for the rest of the season.

In a statement from the club, director Charlotte O'Neil said: “Manchester City is proud to compete at the top of the WSL and on his excellent record of qualification for European competition.

“Unfortunately, the results this season have not reached this high standard so far.

“We would like to inform our thanks to Gareth of all his efforts during his many years in the city. Our FA Cup and League Cup triumphs remain special moments in the history of this football club.”
