Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has rejected comments from Barcelona President Joan Laporta. The Blaugrana chef had characterized Los Blancos as 'close to power', and Alonso's reaction will undoubtedly have brought a smile to many Madridistas.
Alonso spoke to the press prior to their collision with RB Salzburg in the club World Cup, while Laporta had spoken only a few hours earlier during a club event. Laporta's efforts to emphasize what in his eyes is the difference between the Clasico duo seemed to find little foot with Alonso.
In many ways, Laporta preached to the choir during his club event. He said MD that Barcelona tends to trust more at their academy than on registrations, which speaks of the identity of both.
“Madrid has a sense of power and we have a sense of freedom, identity. They are more concerned with signing players and we have more players from La Masia.”
Hours later on the Atlantic Ocean, Alonso sat down to face the media in Philadelphia prior to their last group game in the World Cup club.
“I imagine the context, and I don't want to comment on that, but we have a sense of democracy [at Real Madrid]From freedom too, and I imagine that they also have an idea to be close to power. It goes in both sides, “Alonso explained.
Alonso continued later in his press conference to explain what Real Madrid means on a worldwide stage and called on his time as a player.
“It is the most prestigious team in the world. The history speaks for itself, wherever you go. And this is what Madrid makes great. And these are factors that help Madrid achieve more, helps the club to push ahead. It is a privilege and an honor to be part of this club. I will try to achieve our goals and improve our legend.”
