In the midst of rumors that link Xabi Alonso to the Real Madrid management role, the Bayer Leverkusen -Baas will announce a decision about his future.
According to a report from Diario AS, Alonso will reveal his plans for the following season in a press conference planned for Thursday afternoon. During the session he will ask questions from the media prior to the upcoming collision of Bayer Leverkusen with VFL Bochum. It is suggested that Alonso will confirm that he will stay at the German club for the 2025-26 season in the midst of Real Madrid's interest.
Carlo Ancelotti will be under contract with Real Madrid until 2026, but his future with the club could be in danger if he does not secure this season in the LA Liga title or the Champions League. The Los Blancos, however, will withhold any decisions regarding the last year of his deal until those results have been established. Although Alonso is generally considered a potential successor and reportedly discussions have taken place with his representatives, Leverkusen are eager to clarify the future of Alonso to continue their preparations for the following season.
As Alonso decides to leave Bayer Leverkusen, he runs the risk of having to wait for Ancelotti's departure. In the meantime, if Alonso remains at Leverkusen and Ancelotti is fired this summer, Real Madrid can be forced to explore other options, making the future of Alonso in the hands of the potential performance of the new coach. It is also not an ideal moment for Alonso to take over, because the club World Cup would probably slow its start until mid -July.
After they have been beaten by domestic rivals Bayern Munich from the Champions League, the men from Alonso continue to hunt for both the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal titles, which they claimed last season. The next match of that work itself is a Bundesliga collision against Bochum on Friday, followed by a cup-and-half final collision against Arminia Bielefeld next Tuesday 1 April. Leverkusen is currently in the second position in the league table, six points behind Bayern to go with only eight games.
