
Despite the fact that it has already booked an MMA fight against a fellow -legend, the Cuban sensation will compete in a completely different sport later this month.
Former middleweight title -finalist Yoel Romero left the UFC in 2020 and despite the staring of his 48th birthday, the popular Cuban wrestler remains remarkably active in the combat sport scene.

Yoel Romero Headlines Dirty Boxing's first YouTube event on March 22
Last night the dirty boxing championship of Mike Perry confirmed that their next event is planned for Saturday 22 March in the Hangar in Regatta Harbor in Miami, Florida.
Yoel Romero serves as half of the main event of the evening, with the iconic Cuban that former Bellator Prospect Ras 'Rasquatch takes on Jamaican Shamrock' Hylton.
Although the first dirty boxing event was a 'private showcase' that was not frustrating to stream anywhere in the world, the promotion reportedly also found a new home.
'DBX 1' – as it is officially entitled – with the head of Romero vs Hylton, will actually be available to stream live and free all over the world on YouTube, Twitter (X), Facebook, Tiktok, Rumble and Kick.
The announcement of 'The Fight You Can't Miss' has certainly attracted the attention of the broader combat sports community – especially since Yoel Romero has already booked an MMA fight for later this year.
Yoel Romero has already been booked to combat the UFC legend in new promotion
There is a new MMA promotion in the city; The Global Fight League, which is primarily aimed at giving different sports legends a last chance to throw – including the 'soldier of God'.
In February, after it was revealed that Romero had signed with the GFL, it was confirmed on X that he would return to the Octagon to tackle colleague UFC legend Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua.
A date and location for Romero vs Rua still have to be announced, although MMA fans around the world have not prevented from criticizing the GFL matchmaking.
“Seeing this actually made me physically ill,” stated Hardcore MMA Pundit Caposa on X in response to the Vechtnieuws, where another fan stated that it should “be illegal” to put two hunters in with a combined age of 90.
“Have some shame,” shared one user on X, with another fan who writes: “You have to be put in prison for this fun … and who is the matchmaker?!”
Romero and Shogun are far from the only former UFC stars that are drawn at the GFL.
Also announced in the schedule, people like Frank Mir, Junior Dos Santos, Alexander Gustafsson, Chris Weidman, Luke Rockhold, Holly Holm, Chad Mendes, Dillon Danis, Tyron Woodley, Kevin Lee and Tony Ferguson.
The first GFL season will be launched in April 2025.
