Goals from Wirtz, Nyoni and Ngumoha give Liverpool a victory against Yokohama.
Match report
Liverpool's teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha has concluded a 3-1 friendly victory over Yokohama F. Marinos with a stunning solo goal to underline his fast turnout to the first team of the Reds.
The 16-year-old wing player delighted the left flank with his second half of Cameo, where the mirror combined with enchanting skills but showed that he also went the finishing touch, when he drove forward, went inside his right past a few defenders and skipped in his first Liverpool goal with three minutes to play.
There has been a lot of hype about the young attacker who became the youngest starter of the club ever with his FA Cup performance in January. It seems that excitement is justified, leaving the English youth international Mohamed Salah on the sidelines during his strike on Wednesday.
In a match by Firsts, another rising star Trey Nyoni, 18, and the signing of Florian Wirtz also took their first goals for Liverpool in the comeback victory, while Hugo Ekitike made his first performance.
Arne Slot chose a strong side in Japan when he was looking for a reaction to the 4-2 loss on Saturday at AC Milan, but Liverpool was a large part of the first 45 minutes of the desired level.
Mohamed Salah was the most important maker, Cody Gakpo curled against a post and debutant Ekitike, who was largely on the edge, went close with an near-post film, but Liverpool was missing in their game.
They were also opened too easily. Several opportunities fell on the roads of the hosts – who are located in the J1 League degradation zone – before Giorgi Mhaldashvili was full to keep a header low to his left side just before the break.
Yokohama then cut the Liverpool defense again at the beginning of the second half, when Sub Asahi shot Uenaka in the far corner, after he had already rejected a free header from a corner.
It was a reason for concern about lock – but with Yokohama that changes wholesalers, his own replacements changed the game.
Sub Curtis Jones was sharp to win the ball in midfield before he burst forward, combining with Salah and then worked the ball in Wirtz's path to convert a simple finish to deliver it.
Only six minutes later, Liverpool celebrated again when Jeremie Frimpong curled a beautiful cross in the six-year area for Nyoni to stretch and poke in the second on his side.
Liverpool seemed to free that and Ngumoha was fearless when he tried to make things wide on the left before he took responsibility with a break through the middle to shoot third.
