GARY NEVILLE has launched a scathing attack on Manchester United following their embarrassing defeat to Nottingham Forest.
The Red Devils suffered a 3-2 defeat to Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday evening, their second defeat in a row under new striker Ruben Amorim.
It came before United announced that sporting director Dan Ashworth has left after just five months.
Amorim made several changes to the side that lost 2-0 to Arsenal on Wednesday evening, much to the chagrin of former United star Gary Neville.
He told NBC Sports: “If you keep changing players and you keep changing your back three and you remove five players, you're basically saying to all of them, because they're obviously removed at the start of the game, that you don't trust them.
“Ten Hag continued to do that a few weeks ago, when he kept changing the back players, changing the midfield.
“Suddenly you have a completely different system, a completely different group of players on the pitch at the end of the game. You can never achieve consistency.
“It looked really dirty. They looked a mess in the end, United with no real form.
“They weren't brilliant in the first half, but at least they had form.
“Pick an XI that you think is the best. Almost give that XI faith and confidence.
“[Enzo] Maresca does it now at Chelsea: he plays against an XI on Sunday or Saturday and then he plays against another XI during the week.
“He is sending some messages to the players that there is stability here and this is what we are going to do.
“If you're constantly changing players you're just spinning your wheels and there's no consistency.
“You have to build patterns together. You have to build that idea of what you are doing together.”
Neville was equally annoyed by the United stars not putting in the hard yards on the pitch.
The Sky Sports pundit continued: “No good team is ever a good team without hard work.
Manchester United are thirteenth in the league. Their running stats and distance traveled are sixteenth in the league.
“You don't earn anything if you're avoided every week.”
Neville's former United teammate Rio Ferdinand gave a brutal one-word assessment of the result, writing on
The 39-year-old Amorim did not mince his words after the final whistle, telling Sky Sports: “It was a tough game. We started the two halves very poorly.
“It was difficult to convey some peace to the players and continue the match as it should be.
“We didn't have a lot of quality, but we did have a lot of heart. In this context it is very difficult to have to score two goals after half-time.
'We need more time to take positions.
“If you see the first goal, it was a good combination between the players and after the first goal we had good moments, we created chances, but then we moved on without thinking.
“It is a difficult context, but we have to understand that this is a long journey and that is what our job is.”
United are back in action on Thursday when they take on Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.
