World Cup winner Gianluca Zambrotta has been opened about the suffering of bone distortion that requires that he undergoes surgery.
Zambrotta, 48, opened himself in front of his Genu Varum diagnosis, a distortion that is usually known as bow legs that ensures that the legs bend out on the knees.
The retired right back had an impressive career that saw him play for Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan and the World Cup was a crucial member of the World Cup winning team of Italy 2006.
But since he hangs his boots as a triple Italian champion in 2014, Zambrotta has had to fight with problems caused by his diagnosis of the arc.
Now he has revealed that he must undergo surgery to solve the problem after doctors had remained shocked that he could even walk.
He told the BSMT podcast of Gianluca Gazzoli: “I will soon keep surgery on both knees.
“I have visited three or four leading surgeons nationwide and they cannot explain to me how I can have these knees or how I can do physical activities such as Padel, for example.”
Add: “The doctors look at me and ask me how I walk.”
Zambrotta explained that doctors should cut into his bones to perform the operation, known as an osteotomy.
“I will have an osteotomy,” he said.
“In short, they will straighten my legs by cutting small pieces of bone up and bottom and inserting plates to try to prevent you from getting a complete prosthesis.
“Although I have to get one in a few years.”
Zambrotta had no major injuries or problems during his career, but already had three small operations on the muscles around his knees.
The Serie A icon – which has called itself a “laboratory model for surgeons” – will eventually have to use prosthetic legs.
Zambrotta withdrew with 98 Italy caps to his name, with three European championships and one Olympic Games for the national side in three world cups.
While his club career spanned 19 years and saw him play for Como, Bari, Juventus, AC Milan, Barcelona and Swiss outfit Chiasso.
And he even spent a small amount of time pursuing a career in management after he had demanded on his match days.
