Ziege shares emotional message mourning his wife three months on from her death

Former Premier League star Christian Ziege has shared an emotional message on social media because he remembers his deceased wife Pia three months ago.

Ziege announced in November that Pia had died after a long battle with 'a serious illness'.

The former Tottenham, Liverpool and Middlesbrough player shared a message on Instagram to show that she remains firm in his mind.

Ziege shared a black and white photo of his wife and wrote: “Still don't get it.”

The former German international, now 53, had previously talked about how his wife had helped to save his life.

Ziege had suffered a blood clot in his leg while playing for Tottenham in 2022 and was persuaded by Pia to quickly go to the hospital to undergo emergency surgery, which meant that he had amended his leg.

“My life was in acute danger, she pulled me over to go to the hospital quickly,” Ziege revealed earlier.

“I wouldn't live without my wife today.”

Ziege announced Pia's death in November and wrote: 'Our world has been quiet since November 4. Pia has closed her eyes forever after a long and serious illness.

'We want to thank everyone who has followed this long and difficult path with us, as well as for the great sympathy and compassion. Pia, you will live in our hearts forever. '

'And there are always traces of your life, thoughts, photos, moments. They will remind us, make us happy and sad and never let us forget. '

The former football player and Pia had been married since 1997. They have two children, Alessandro and Maria. Pia also had another daughter, Katharina, from an earlier marriage.

After playing for people like Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Middlesbrough, Liverpool, Tottenham and Borussia Monchengladbach, Ziege retired in 2005.

During his one season with Liverpool, he won the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup. He also finished in 2001-02 of the League Cup Runner-Up with Tottenham.

He spent seven seasons with Bayern Munich at the start of his career – making 227 performances for the side before he finally left for AC Milan.

On top of his impressive club career, he was also covered 72 times by the German national team.

After he retired, the 52-year-old checked a career in management, but his most recent job saw him leave FC Pinzgau in September 2022.

He only coached six games, won three, drew one and lost two.
