Zirkzee avoid ban for crude celebration in MU win, ‘reminded of responsibilitie’

Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee has avoided a ban after a rough celebration against Southampton.

United made an impressive late comeback against the Saints in the Premier League on Thursday night, winning 3-1 despite being under-par for much of the game and in second place.

Amad Diallo came up trumps and scored a 12-minute hat-trick to get his side out of the hole and continue their good form.

Zirkzee, meanwhile, after being booed by his own fans in the first half less than a month ago, was praised for his involvement after being introduced as a second-half substitute on Thursday.

And the player himself did not hide his delight at his side's turnaround in play, as he had a raucous celebration as he chased down Amad for one of his three goals on the night.

However, it has been revealed that he will not face any further punishment, with the FA outlining their decision.

“As guidance, we have issued Joshua Zirkzee a reminder of his responsibilities, and he will take no further action,” the statement said.

Zirkzee was introduced into the match in the 53rd minute, replacing the ineffective Rasmus Hojlund up front.

Fans hailed him as a 'game-changer' in the match, with the Dutchman playing a key role in the turnaround.

But it was non-football matters that confused supporters after the match, as replays of Zirkzee's celebration surfaced on social media.

The striker could be seen running after Diallo, who performed a knee slide in front of the home team's supporters before being mobbed by teammates such as Alejandro Garnacho and Lisandro Martinez.

Before he emerged, however, Zirkzee stopped and punched the air in a torrent of passion for the celebrating fans.

But rather bizarrely it appeared he then grabbed his crotch and shook it while looking at the fans.

However, he has avoided a ban for the action and will be available for selection in United's home game against Brighton this weekend.
