Barcelona explain why Camp Nou would be perfect to stage the 2030 World Cup final

“We have the best city and the best stadium,” argues city councilor David Escudé. “As things stand now, Madrid is right at the limit in terms of available locations.”

David Escudé, deputy delegate for sport at the Barcelona City Council, argued in an interview with EFE that “it would be very difficult to understand why Spotify Camp Nou would not be selected to host the 2030 World Cup Final” – not just because it's the 2030 World Cup final. stadium with the largest capacity in Spain, but also because of the strength of the candidacy and the attractive qualities and pulling power that the city offers.

Escudé assures that the FC Barcelona stadium, currently under renovation, is a favorite to host the closing party of the World Cup jointly organized by Spain, Morocco and Portugal.

Barcelona is the best city with the best stadium to host the 2030 World Cup final

“We have everything we need to accommodate the final. That doesn't come from us – that's what the application review committee said about us and named us at a technical level as the best of the applications. We have the best city and the best stadium,” Escudé explains.

Barcelona hosted the opening match of the 1982 World Cup and Camp Nou was the venue for the most matches during the tournament (five). Escudé assures that Condal City has presented “a great candidacy” and therefore hopes that FIFA will decide in favor of Spotify Camp Nou, which competes with the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid and the Hassan II Stadium of Casablanca to host the final .

The Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca will have a capacity of 115,000 spectators. Having recently been renovated, the Bernabéu can accommodate 78,297 spectators, while Spotify Camp Nou will be able to seat 99,354 once reconstruction is fully completed next year.

The 2030 World Cup will feature a total of 48 teams (the six host countries: Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay plus another 42 teams).

There will be 104 matches played at the tournament – the same as the next edition (2026) which will be held in the US, Canada and Mexico. The number is an increase from the 64 we saw in Qatar 2022.
