Dissatid leading referee David Coote can make a sensational return to football – as a VAR instructor, said his friends.
The 42-year-old, praised for his honesty about his cocaine shame, could use his enormous experience to help younger officials.
Despite the fact that his career is torpedoed, Coote wants to stay in football, although possibly not as ref.
A source close to him said: “He has built up an incredible wealth of knowledge and skills. It would be a huge shame if it was lost because of errors he made under times of incredible stress.
“He can still continue with all other referees and I saw him play a role somewhere. He would be perfect as a var expert or expert. '
In an exclusive interview in yesterday's sun, Coote said that he was afraid to come out as a gay and took cola to “escape”.
He was fired after images arose that he sniffed the class-a-drug at Euro 2024.
However, thousands of fans debated a possible return yesterday after opening the “pressure cooker” of oppressed emotion, plus a punitive work schedule.
Paul Field, chairman of the Referee Association, said he hoped that Coote can stay in English football.
He said: “The work he does with young people is exemplary. He is an incredible tutor. He puts so much time and effort into the emerging Grassroots officials.
“I would like him to be part of the FA, training, mentoring, from the public light to take care of himself. He has so much to offer. '
Coote was one of the top three VAR exponents of the UK – and one of a select number of English officials for international competitions.
Coote himself said he would like to come back.
He added: “Whether it would be with a whistle in my hand would be another matter. Certainly not for me to judge. But with regard to the use of my experience, I hope that somehow there is a chance to do this. “
He revealed that he was “not sober” when he called former Liverpool -Baas Jurgen Klopp a “C ***” in shocking images.
And he also told how he was nauseous abuse as ref, including messages in the hope that he was paralyzed in a car accident.
Gay Rugby referee Nigel Owens supported Coote yesterday to hide his sexuality.
The 53-year-old was suicidal about fear of consequences before he came out in 2007.
He continued with the officer of big competitions, including the 2015 World Cup Final.
Owens said, “Homophobia remains a problem in all sports.”
He continued: “If you are struggling with your identity, it is a very difficult and sometimes very dark place.
“You go so far as to try to deal with those demons and mental health problems in a way we have seen David Coote give examples.”
