“People have to understand that you are talking about a 19-year-old who has to make an important decision for his career, and it is not that he has rejected us or someone else,” he added.
“I think he just wanted to be at ease with his decision. I don't think he wanted to be pushed in a certain direction, and it's an honor to him.
“I had a conversation with him, and it was purely around football and I think he will find a really good place for him here. Regardless of the age, he will get a chance here.
“The way we play, I think he will suit him and what we build afterwards – I thought this would be the perfect fit for his next step. I think it is correct that he has taken the time in his decision . “
Postecoglou spoke on Thursday for Tottenham's EFL Cup semi-final second stage against Liverpool, a match in which they have a 1-0 lead.
Tottenham, however, has been eliminated three of the last five times, they have won the first stage of an EFL cup semi-final, most recently against Chelsea in 2018-19.
In this phase of the competition, no she was eliminated after he has won the first stage more (also three Ipswich Town three).
Tottenham also wants to beat Liverpool twice in the same season for the first time since 2010-11, when they did the double over them in the Premier League.
The side of Postecoglou is only handed over an 11.2% chance by OPTA's data-conducted simulations to win in Anfield, but he believes that Liverpool will also feel nervous before the competition.
“It's a great opportunity for everyone. It is a semi -final. I don't think Liverpool will be less anxious than we are. It is a big game for both clubs,” concluded Postecoglou.
“You recognize that, you embrace that, but ultimately you want to be successful.
“These are the games that you want to be involved in, because the alternative is that you are on the couch at home to watch two other teams on TV that want you to be there.”
