Mathys Tel, Nico Gonzalez, Donyell Malen: What can we expect from the Premier League’s newest arrivals?

Are you wondering what to expect from some of the biggest imports of the Premier League in January? Here is the inner line on Mathys Tel, Donyell Malen, Nico Gonzalez and more …

It has been a busy January up and down, the Premier League, with almost £ 400 million spent over the month on 45 signing sessions – for transfer costs, loans or arrivals as free agents.

With 29 of them from clubs away from these coasts, you may not be familiar with the skill, quality and disadvantages – of some of the newest arrivals of the division.

Football expert Sam Tighe joined the Transfer Talk -Podcast in January to give the lowdown on some of the newest faces of the Premier League – let him fill in what to expect …

Nico Gonzalez is perhaps the best Rodri replacement available

He is a good player. He came through in Barcelona with Gavi and Pedri, and was seen as the more kind of physical, kind of dominant holding player of the three.

And there was a beautiful dream that Pedri and Gavi and Nico Gonzalez would rise together through the ranks.

Pedri is a bit older than the other two, but as a trio they are born and bred La Masia and have the perfect skills.

It is no. 6, it is no. 8, it is no. 10. Oh, look, they are busquets, Xavi and Iniseta reborn.

Of course it didn't really happen. Many financial problems with Barcelona all play that and injuries for both others.

Nico ended up in Porto and has knitted a bit. We know that players from Porto and Benfica and the Portuguese League are coming, they tend to really adapt very well.

Nico is a good player. And I think he brings that frame and that physicality that Rodri has, that city really missed without him.

He is 6ft 2 and a strong boy. All other players they have there do not really fit that assignment.

And we have all seen playing in midfield all season in midfield, thinking why you can't close attacks?

Nico is an attempt to solve that. But my only question about it is, if this was always the answer, why was it not done 33 days earlier?

We know that they approached this deal about £ 40 million and eventually paid £ 60 million, probably because it was so late.

That would suggest that this is not a perfect solution. However, they clearly felt the pressure of time and had the feeling that they had to do something because they did not guarantee the top four now.

Forget the title. And Nico is probably a good attempt to solve this if I can really see on the market at this late stage.

How good is Mathys? It's hard to count …

It is a struggle to find someone who can tell you with confidence how good Mathys Tel is right now, because he has not played much football for the past two and a half years.

He made nine competition at that time. And he is one of those players who will probably look back on his career and regret that he attends a super club so early because he is only now 19. It was very, very early in his career and he really didn't get the minutes he needs to develop.

Every time you see Tel Play playing, he got off the couch in the 70th minute, Bayern are probably two or three goals up. He does some nice things on the left flank, scores a few nice goals, a few steps, perhaps to the name rule, takes a defender road, whatever.

But what can you really take from that? What can you really take from the last beating of a game in which Bayern is two or three, sometimes four or five goals up?

You cannot use his statistics either because all his performances are as a replacement. Last season, for example, he came from the bank 24 times, made six starts and played a little more than a thousand minutes.

That means that everything he does statistically is completely broken. All its statistics per 90 are everywhere. So it is really difficult to get a meter about how good count is.

What we do know is when he signed for Bayern, he was one of the best young broad attackers in the world. He had shown that at the level of the youth tournament and probably that has not disappeared. The potential is still there, but how much better is it? It's really hard to say.

Why Kevin Danso will be good to play Angeball

He is a good defender. It is comfortable with the ball on his feet. He is seven out of 10 in most categories. So that's a big tick. I like that.

When he plays for Austria, he plays super-aggressive Highline football. It is clear that we know that the Austrians like crazy among Ralf Rangnick people.

So if you ask if he fits the style of Ange Postecoglou, I would say that we have enough evidence to say yes. And with that athletics this means that he can also recover at the back.

It is a nice second crack at Premier League football for him because many people will not know that he went on loan to Southampton a few years ago and it just went disastrous for him. It wasn't really his fault.

I think he played most of his football from left-back under Ralf Hasenhuttl. He made about six performances and then just disappeared again.

But Danso spent a lot of time in England as a young person in the Academies, MK down and other places.

So he is actually waiting for this for a long time, this crack at Premier League Football. It went terribly the first time. I am really happy for him that he is going on it again.

Can Donyell Malen find at home forever in Aston Villa?

Donyell Malen at its best is a very good player. But the constant feedback that you get everywhere where he played Post-PSV is that you don't see it often enough. I am wary of giving contempt on this transfer that had previously been critical of Manuel Akanji when he signed for Man City, and to see him make a lot of mistakes for Borussia Dortmund.

Is it a case that the chaosclub that is Dortmund, you take a player from that ecosystem, and you place them in a system and under a coach that really suits them?

What if Malen finds the coach that he needs in Unai Emery in recent years, in a very fixed system? He has a history of scoring goals, but he has had a few injuries and is super inconsistent.

He is not a player who buys villa on the UP, connects it and guarantees 10 goals. They see if Unai Emery can work his magic.
