Chelsea 1-4 Barca (agg 2-8): Bonmati & Co thrash Blues to cruise into WUC final

The game is over and the final score is Chelsea 1-4 Barcelona. Here is the match report.

Match report

In the end it all turned out to be too much for Chelsea.

Many would claim that the damage had already been caused in Spain last weekend. With the shortage of just one after 80 minutes in the Johan Cruyff Stadium, Sonia Bompastor's side made the mistake of trying to look for another. While they broke ahead, Barcelona sniffed blood and went for the murder, Irene Paredes and then Claudia Pina who hit them against them.

Barcelona captain Alexia Putellas had to hold back the celebrations of her teammates in the full-time whistle. The work was not done yet, she argued. But for Chelsea, the back-to-back Champions League champions welcomed in West London with a shortage of three goals less a tough fight and more an almighty, mountain-large war.

A passer -by would not have been able to see walking on Sunday afternoon along the rural streets near Stamford Bridge. The sun was shining and a feeling of quiet optimism followed the 25,000-plus Chelsea fans through the gates of Todd Boehly to this historic stadium.

But then, as many have found for this ruthless winning machine that is Barcelona Women's team, that hope was quickly, painfully extinguished.

This time it was by none other than Ballon d'Or Winner Aitana Bossi, whose 25th minute goal sucked life from this fixture and the back-to-back Champions League champions sent on the way to a fifth consecutive final.

After an optimistic start of Chelsea, albeit without too much to involve the Liga F -leaders, Bonmati took the ball deep in her own half and shot to a gaping hole in the blues back line.

Bolmati left a swinging Niamh Charles in the dirt and went to Hannah Hampton. Strangely enough, neither shout Nusken nor Millie Bright went to the Spanish World Cup winner, and Bonmati hunted the space before aiming her shot in the roof of Hampton's.

The mood around the bridge then, 15 minutes later, Ewa Pajor was unraveled from Bright's grabbed and tapped in the pass of Caroline Graham Hansen from close by.

Seconds later, Claudia Pina came back to chase Chelsea. When he received the ball on the edge of the penalty area and the 23-year-old passed Hampton's vast glove and in the top right corner. The score was aggregated with 7-1 and the blues were dead and buried.

Bompastor rubbed the changes during the break and raised Aggie Beever-Jones for Mayra Ramirez after the Colombians had trouble imposing themselves in the first half. Ashley Lawrence also stood up for Naomi Girma, and Chelsea suspended things after the break.

They came close to opportunities from Catarina Macario and Lucy Bronze, but Hampton was also busy and Salma Paralluelo ran the knife in the last minute of the normal time for the fourth of Barcelona.

The consolation of Wieke Kaptein's 93rd minute was reached by raw applause. A goal on the score sheet was that all these fans wanted to see at the moment.

In the last month, Barcelona will be confronted with Arsenal or Bompastor's former side Lyon – the winner of that match will be decided later today.
