Arsenal set to lose out on transfer as EPL rival swoops after MU update

Arsenal and Manchester United are both linked to a movement for Rosenborg Starlet Sverre Nypan, but it seems that Aston Villa will win the race for the midfielder

Arsenal -look is set to miss a deal for the Norwegian Wonderkid Sverre Nypan, with Aston Villa now allegedly leading the race. The Gunners were among the best contenders for the 18-year-old midfielder, also connected to Manchester United and Girona.

Nypan was compared to Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard and he played for Rosenborg last season and produced 18 target contributions in 33 performances in all competitions. However, it seems that Villa is now in a pole position to sign NYPAN.

According to a report from the athletics, Villa is 'working on closing a deal' for the teenager who is said to be 'enthusiastic' about closing the Unai Emery side. However, they still have to agree with Rosenborg or personal conditions with the player.

The news came after it was revealed that United was out of the race for NYPAN when his agent, Rafaele Pimenta, limited the list of potential destinations. Rosenborg's sports director Mikael Dorsin told the Norwegian BroadCaster TV2 earlier this year that the club had to receive not yet formal offers for NYPAN.

“I will deal with what is coming and then we will take it there and then,” he said. “That is how I think. We have Sverre here as long as he is here, and then we will see what is happening.

“We are happy for the time we have him here and we understand that there is a lot of interest around him. If someone comes by who wants to get involved, they will come along. We will see when it happens.

“There is always a bit of a gap between interest and concrete action, but as soon as it happens, it usually happens fairly quickly. But it is clear that there is a lot of interest. That speaks for itself.”

Both Arsenal and United will now focus their attention elsewhere for a huge summer transfer window, in which the Gunners feel confident about their chances of signing the real Sociedad Middenvelder Martin Zubimendi.

Mirror Football understands that Arsenal expects to have a clear run at Zubimendi, which has a release clause of £ 51 million in his contract. The basis for the deal was long before Edu took place when the sports director of Arsenal and Andrea Berta was appointed as his replacement.

Zubimendi came close to making a switch to the Premier League last summer, but he finally decided to reject the chance to join Liverpool and stay with Sociedad. Zubimendi explained his decision and told El Diario Vasco: “I went on vacation and it surprised me.

“It wasn't something that I had planned. I reacted when the situation arose. It was an uncomfortable time for me, but I weighed the advantages and disadvantages and concluded that the best option was to stay. I don't believe in 'one-off' opportunities.

“If you are good and want to achieve something, it will come to you. It is not necessary to hurry. I have looked at my personal progression, who I am, and the club's project. I stayed because I knew that this season would be important to me in the team, and I still had to take steps.

“It was not that hard of a decision. There were many reasons for my decision, but I was selfish and thought about what was best for me – and that was staying.”
