Diego Simeone makes La Liga title admission as gap increases

Atletico Madrid -Baas Diego Simeone has admitted that a La Liga title challenge is now his team for the season.

Simeone was dumped from the UEFA Champions League by City Rivals Real Madrid and the Copa del Rey by Barcelona.

The team of Hansi Flick a Pushing for a Potential Trophy Treble in the campaign run-in with Carlo Ancelotti is still on course for a possible double.

Simeone, however, will end the campaign without a domestic or European trophy, prior to the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

On the back of that output of that double competition, Atletico Madrid did not succeed in gathering in the title race of the competition, with only two wins in their last six La Liga competitions.

The 93rd minute winner of Javier Munoz for Las Palmas condemned Simeone on a 1-0 weekend loss in Gran Canaria with the gorge to leaders Barcelona now 10 points with six games to play.

Atletico Madrid will again qualify for the Champions League for 2025/26, where La Liga has now granted five domestic qualifying stains, but Simeone knows that the title tax is now over.

“To get the chance to win the competition, we had to set up perfect figures. We didn't do that at Las Palmas,” according to quotes from Diario AS.

“The first half was pretty good, but their keeper did not let us take the lead. We checked their counterattacks and the spaces.

“The game started in the second half, we could not generate what we had hoped for. Their goal was typical of our second half performance in general.

Simeone has three Home League matches before the curtain falls against Europe-Chasing Trio Rayo Vallecano, Real Sociedad and Real Betis.

Their club World Cup campaign then starts on June 16 after they have been drawn in group B next to Paris Saint-Germain, Botafogo and Seattle Sounders.
