Ex-Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag ‘neck-and-neck’ with Arsenal legend Fabregas to replace Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen

Erik ten Hag and CESC Fabregas are the leading candidates to replace Xabi Alonso as Bayer Leverkusen -Baas this summer, according to reports.

Alonso, 43, announced on Friday that he will leave Leverkusen at the end of the season after he led the club to an undefeated Bundesliga title.

Now the retired midfielder seems to be on his way to former Club Real Madrid to replace Carlo Ancelotti in the hotseat of one of the largest jobs of football.

Now are Leverkusen looking to find his replacement and it seems that former Manchester United boss ten Hag and ex-Arsenal-star Fabregas, 38, are the top goals for the German outfit.

Ten Hag, 55, has been fired by United in October since he was fired in October, while Fabregas is impressed by his first season responsible for the Italian outfit como in the Serie A.

The German outlet kicker claims that the pair of “neck-and-neck” is for the vacancy if things stand.

It is thought that Ten HAG would manage a higher wage package than Fabregas, but Leverkusen would have to find out more than £ 10 million to convince como to let Fabregas go – in view of his current contract runs until 2028.

Fabregas, whose como-side on course is for a top half of the Serie A, despite the fact that he has only won promotion in the past term, it is supposed to have a long list of voorags.

While Ten Hag waited to find the right job and revealed in February that he “didn't know” what the next step in his career would be.

“Provided that something comes along that suits me. There are so many other things that I could do.

“Maybe in football, in a new position as a manager. That is an option. And maybe something completely different.

“I have worked with my brothers lately. We have our own company. Or rather, they have their own company.

“But we also run a company together with our father. That is also something I like to do.

“I can give that more attention now and it is also very nice.”

It is claimed that Ten Hag has already started negotiations with Leverkusen about the work, but nothing has yet been agreed.

Ten Hag was fired in October despite winning both the League Cup and FA Cup in his first two seasons as Red Devils Boss.

He was exhausted while United was won in 14th place in the Premier League – a place higher than the position they hold (15th) about six months later.
