Xabi Alonso will take over as the next manager of Real Madrid after he announced that he would leave Bayer Leverkusen, and he has a big task for him to get the team back on track after a difficult season
It is only a matter of time before Xabi Alonso is confirmed as the next Real Madrid manager after he announced that he would leave Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season. The Spaniard will have huge plans about who will be in the Bernabeu in his team, while he wants to help bounce back from a bald season.
Alonso is one of the most appreciated young managers in football and stands to inherit a team -littered team with stars such as Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius JR, but he will have an idea of any areas he wants to strengthen.
Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has already been confirmed as the next Brazilian boss and has to be only a matter of time before Alonso starts working in his former club. He would only need a handful of signing sessions to get his new side back in fighting condition for trophies and it won't be long before he starts identifying those goals.
Mirror Football has taken a look at how Real Madrid could stand under Alonso next season if he is successful in acquiring some of his top goals of the summer …
Defense
Thibaut Courtois is the undisputed No. 1 in the goal and that will not change under Alonso, but he may have to start thinking about what his defense could look like. Madrid has a number of aging centerbacks, with Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba both 32 years old, but they still have enough quality to shine next season.
Eer Militao will also hope to get to the team under Alonso, but the new boss of Los Blancos wants at least one new center-back that can compete for a place and add much needed competition.
Jonathan Tah was a favorite of Alonso's in Leverkusen and he fantasies that take the center half to Madrid, according to the Spanish outlet like. The commander 29-year-old, however, is in demand and is also linked to Manchester United.
The German is available on a free transfer and would be a huge coup. But with Bayern Munich who also sniffs around, a deal may not be as easy as it seems.
Midfield
While Trent Alexander-Arnold will regard himself as a defender, he is expected to operate between Defense and the midfield in Alonso's Back Three and play more as an attacking wingback that will get ahead and causes problems by the flanks.
The movement of the English international still has to be confirmed, but is a formality after confirmation that he will leave Liverpool on a free transfer this summer. It believes that Madrid hopes to get Alexander-Arnold over the line before they leave for the club World Cup.
On the opposite flank, Alonso would like another left-wing wing back, especially after Ferland Mendy was excluded with a serious muscle injury and it is unlikely that it is back before the tournament starts next month.
Alonso was able to launch a raid on Leverkusen for Alex Grimaldo, who has been fantastic for the past two seasons. He registered seven assists in the Bundesliga this season and had 13 last season, in addition to 10 goals.
In the middle of the park, Federico Valverde is probably the automatic starter, but with Luka Modric who is approaching the end of his contract, Alonso wants a younger midfielder that he can trust for years to come. Martin Zubimendi is strongly connected to Arsenal, but is also on Alonso's Wishlist and the player can perhaps remain preferred in Spain in one of the top clubs in the country instead of participating in the Premier League.
Attack
Find a way to house Vinicius JR and Kylian Mbappe, will be a complex problem for every football manager to solve, but Madrid's attack chooses practically. Alonso would notice that he played both Vinicius and Mbappe in advance, with Bellingham just playing in the No. 10 roll, unless he chooses to play the former two as Wingers and buy a new attacker.
It will be a real dilemma, because Superstar Mbappe wants to be the center in advance, but Alonso can soon come and realize why Ancelotti had so many problems that his team would get this season as a unit – and maybe he will see that the balance is wrong with Mbappe as the only striker.
