Inter cannot dwell on first-leg victory as Bayern visit San Siro, says Inzaghi

Simone Inzaghi urged his inter-team to ignore their 2-1 win over Bayern Munich last week while preparing to host the German giants in San Siro.

Davide Frattesi scored an 88th minute winner to take a total lead in the quarter-final-equal game of the Champions League.

Inter, who hunts a treble, get a chance of 72% to reach the last four, according to Opta's supercomputer.

The Nerazzurri are unbeaten in their last 14 home games in the Champions League (W12 D2). This is now the longest, such running run in the competition.

Bayern, however, has won all four of their away games against Inter in European competition, including all three in the Champions League without giving a single goal (2-0 in 2006, 1-0 in 2011 and 2-0 in 2022).

And Inzaghi says that last week's performance means little for the second stage.

“More than tension, there is great pride, because the way in which this season is developing,” he said.

“Tomorrow will be a very difficult match, we must forget the result of the first stage, but not the performance, because we have played a great game in Munich.

“We know the very high value of the opponent, we will have to play a great game with the right posture.”

Inzaghi also greeted the quality of Bayern's team and the influence of coach Vincent Kompany, and added: “Winning in Munich is difficult, you have to be good, we are happy, but we know that unfortunately it was not a final.

“In just over 24 hours we will have to do another test against what I, together with Real Madrid, I think that the strongest team in the world is … they are strong, they are a team full of talent with a coach that I respected a lot as a player.

“He was a very intelligent player and he also proves it as a coach. We have to try to replicate the game in Munich, technically very well playing to keep the ball as much as possible. It will be difficult because they put pressure on the opponent.”

Inzaghi also confirmed that Federico Dimarco, Carlos Augusto, Nicola Zalewski and last week's match winner are suitable for appearing.

Inter, second in 2023, is advanced from 21 of their previous 23 knockout podium tires in the European Cup/Champions League after winning the first stage.

In the meantime, Bayern has only emerged from one of their last eight Champions League-Knock-Out stage tires after losing the first stage, although that came in the most recent (3-1 on aggregated V Lazio in the last 16 last season).
