Internal conflict led to Barcelona star’s failed winter transfer window departure

Barcelona could not add to the Hansi Flick team during the winter transfer window, but although there was no departure, they could have been. A number of first team players were connected to a move halfway through the season, but in the end it was only Barca Atletic Captain Unai Hernandez who left for Al-Eittihad, a deal that was not overly welcomed by the board of the club directors.

Another young midfielder who could have left was Pablo Torre. FC Porto held an approach to sign the 21-year-old on Deadline Day, but in the end no agreement was reached-and there were several reasons for this.

Flick did not give the light for Torre to leave because he regards him as a valuable player, despite his lack of fame in recent months. In the meantime, there was also some resistance on the side of Porto.

As reported by relevant, there was an internal disagreement at Porto about the possible signing of Torre, which would have been a permanent arrangement. The sports department wanted the Barcelona man, but new head coach Martin Anselmi wanted a player more in the form of Nico Gonzalez, who left the club on Deadline Day to become a member of Manchester City.

That delayed the negotiations, and in the end the deal fell through without much progress. It means that Torre remained in Barcelona at least the end of the season, at which point his place in the club will probably be reassessed.

Torre is very impressed by when he was used by Flick, and that is why it is no surprise that the German head coach is a big fan of the playmaker. However, he really struggles for minutes since Dani Olmo, Gavi and Frenkie de Jong have returned from injuries and as a result his development is hit.
