Jack della Maddalena has made it clear that he intends to reject his countryman Alexander Volkanovski by combating Islam Makhachev in his first defending defense.
The Australian powerhouse Maddalena has withdrawn division champion Belal Muhammad into the main event of UFC 315 on Saturday evening in Montreal to win the Welterweight title. And he didn't waste time to call his shot for his first defense.
It was determined before the fight that if the Australian win, the lightweight champion would rise to challenge at 170 pounds. However, if Mohammed had kept the belt, the friendship of the couple would have prevented them from fighting and he would probably have confronted Ilia Topuria instead.
Jack della Maddalena calls on revenge on Islam Makhachev
After his unanimous decision victory at Belal Muhammad, it took very little time for Jack della Maddalena to work on his first defense. While Islam Makhachev had long been established as the potential opponent, he had to make his feelings clear.
And he noticed that it was necessary to take the two that his countryman Alexander Volkanovski suffered from the hands of the lightweight champion. “It's a wonderful challenge,” he told Daniel Cormier.
'[Islam] Is pound-for-pound number one in the world and I go back for people. “He referred to the two times Volkanovski tried to win lightweight gold from the Russian, the latter ended in a mean knockout.
Islam Makhachev confirms a welterweight on the move in Social Media Post
After the fight, it didn't take long before Makhachev announced his feelings. Not someone who usually uses a lot of social media, the pound-for-pound number one went to X and Instagram to send a number of messages.

He sent a short message to Mohammed, with whom he regularly trained in the past. He simply wrote: “Head of champion.”
For that, however, he sent a tweet to Della Maddalena, and noted that he now insisted on another belt. “Time to become a double champion #inshaallah,” he wrote to his nearly 720,000 followers. “Let's go.”
