On Saturday, five La Liga luminaires took place in Spain, each of which had something on the line for at least one club. The matches saw Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad against the Riyadhair Metropolitano, Villarreal Travel to Girona, Celta Vigo -Gastheer Sevilla in Balaidos, Valencia takes on Getafe, with Mallorca and real Valladolid.
It was an evening to remember for Atletico Madrid, and especially Alexander Sorloth, while sending to Real Sociedad. All four goals came in the first half, and they were all scored by the Norwegian striker – in the process he broke two La Liga records that will be very difficult for everyone to defeat in the future.
Sorloth found the back of the net in the 7th, 10th, 11th and 30th minute, and with this result, Athleti is now almost assured of the end in third place in La Liga but they still follow the second Real Madrid placed with five points, after they had played a match more. La Real is now in 12th place, with their European hope slip away.
Villarreal remains the masters of their own destination in the race to qualify for next season's Champions League after a dramatic victory over Girona. The visitors had the chances everywhere in Montilivi, but the goal only came in the 89th minute – and it was an incredible moment for Etta Eyong, who scored for the first team for the first time.
Villarreal stays in the fifth with this result, and they are now in fourth place at points with Athletic Club – who have a competition in hand. Girona remains 16th, six points above the relegation zone.
Celta Vigo provided one of their most impressive results of the season with a victory over Sevilla in which they played the entire second half with 10 men. Ilax Moriba opened the score, but the hosts immediately let Marcos Alonso be sent to half time for a handball in the penalty area-the resulting Spot-Kick was scored by Nemanja Gudelj.
Nevertheless, Celta gathered and scored through Oscar Mingueza and Borja Iglesias. Kike Salas walked up late, but it wasn't enough for Seville, who stay in the 15th. Celta goes back to the seventh with their victory.
Valencia made it unbeaten 10 games with a thunderous victory over Getafe. All three goals came in the first half, scored by Pepelu, Diego Lopez and Hugo Duro.
And with that victory, Los Che is now in the top 10 of the La Liga rankings, with two points that separate them from the last European place. Getafe stay in the 13th, because it is now five defeats in a row (and four games in a row without a goal).
Mallorca had to come from behind to beat Real Valladolid at Son Moix. Chuki scored after 11 minutes, but the hosts responded with goals from Omar Mascarell and Sergi Darder on both sides of the break.
Mallorca is 9th after that result, level on points with Rayo in the last European place. Valladolid remains very low after a ninth consecutive defeat.
