Luis Enrique’s new look PSG face one final Champions League test

The first season of Paris Saint-Germain without Kylian Mbappe is smooth sailing, led by the tactical and identity changes implemented by Luis Enrique.

At the end of last season, Mbappe left the French capital for Real Madrid and was replicated its target score under Carlo Ancelotti.

But for Mbappe he ended his first season in Madrid without a trophy, while PSG will fight with Inter in the Champions League final in the Champions League final.

The Parisiens only make their second performance in the final of the European Cup/UEFA Champions League and previously lose 1-0 against Bayern Munich in 2019-2020.

They remain the last French side to win a large European trophy-the UEFA Cup winners Cup 1995-96, but are the favorites this time.

This is due to the philosophy of Luis Enrique, which has shifted from the superstar -based model to a more disciplined, yet youthful philosophy.

Lionel Messi and Neymar are just a few of the names lined with stars that appear to be for PSG over the years, but the will of Ousmane Dembele, Desire Done and Joao Neves are now domestic names under the elite competition of European football.

Luis Enrique, known for his abrasive and uncompromising personality, made his intentions early in his term of office.

“Our game does not consist of having Mbappe do what he wants,” he said last season in a documentary that was aimed at PSG around his enchantment, when the attacker made his decision to leave as a free agent.

“That was the old philosophy (from the club), which never won a big trophy.”

The message was unmistakable – and the culture around the club changed and led to another domestic treble this season.

“There has been a shift in the mentality this season,” Dembele said last week. “The coach has handled everything.”

Luis enrique's term of office has seen the return of intense training sessions, strict tactical requirements and a insistence on collective responsibility, without a player of defensive tasks.

His confronting, no-nonsense approach is in stark contrast to the player-driven environment of recent years, of which insiders say that insiders have often given priority to keeping selection framework for content over football coherence.

The results were immediately, with PSG that completes a Ligue 1 title, and last week a record-expanding 16th Coupe de France Crown against Reims against Reims.

This season, PSG both won their most competitions (10) and scoring their most goals (33) in a single major European campaign.

They also registered their most shots per match (18.6) in a Champions League season on Record since OPTA started to record this information in 2003-04.

When Mbappe made it clear last season that he would leave, the club tried to fight the departure of the France, but Luis Enrique was completely smiling.

“If I think I'll do better next season? No doubt,” said Luis Enrique.

“Because the fact that having a player can do what he wants on the field, there are no situations that I can't control.

“I will check them all next season. Without exception.”
