Luka Modric has made an important investment in Swansea City and will also play a role as co-owner of the Championship Club in a large coup for the Welsh outfit
Luka Modric is ready to use his legendary gaming career to help Swansea City after officially becoming a member of the club as an investor and co-owner. The 39-year-old, who has been with Real Madrid for 13 seasons and helped them to conquer six Champions League titles, will join the championship club to help them 'move forward'.
Although the club has not revealed how much the Ballon d'Or Winner 2018 has invested, Modricism expressed its enthusiasm on the club's website: “This is an exciting chance. Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible fan base and the ambition to compete at the highest level.
“Play at the highest level, I believe I can offer my experience to the club. My goal is to support the growth of the club in a positive way and to help build an exciting future.”
The immediate attention of Modric is on the Champions League quart final second stage of Real Madrid against Arsenal on Wednesday, but his contract in the Bernabeu will end this season. His move to invest in a football club reflects that of teammates Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior, who have invested in Ligue 2 Side Caen and Portuguese outfit FC Alverca respectively.
Swansea is currently under owned by Andy Coleman, Brett Cravatt, Nigel Morris and Jason Cohen, who took over the majority of Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan last November.
Tom Gorringe, Chief Executive of Swansea City, could not hide his excitement that Luka became an investor and co-owner and said: “I was excited that Luka came on board as an investor and co-owner,” he continued to praise the football player as an exemplary figure in the sport: “
“His approval of our ambition and willingness to support our journey will play an important role if we want to continue to improve our results on and outside the field.”
He added: “In our conversations he has demonstrated his passion for the club, his knowledge of how we perform and a real passion to help us improve. I am really looking forward to working with him better to help us move forward.”
However, there are financial challenges that are confronted with the last WinSt report from Swansea, a loss before taxes of £ 15.2 million for the year ending on June 2024.
The Swansea Board has issued a uniform statement in which the positive sentiments echoed: “We are delighted that Luka joined our ownership group. It was clear from our first discussions that there was a coordination with our visions and that Luka would be a real asset to our group.”
“We want to thank Luka and his team for their support through this process, and we look forward to welcome him to the Swansea.com stadium to meet you all as quickly as possible.”
