Man Utd have got ‘a lot worse’ under Amorim – Neville

Manchester United has become “much worse” among new boss Ruben Amorim, who has to inspire some positive results to keep players on board with his methods.

That is the opinion of the former United Right-Back Gary Neville, which is shocked by the plight situation of the Red Devils under the former sporty CP coach.

On Sunday, United was beaten at home 2-0 by Crystal Palace, a result that they left 13th in the Premier League, closer to the relegation zone (12 points) to the top four (14).

They have now lost seven of their 13 home competitions this season, their joint in this phase of each competition campaign, together with 1893-94 (also seven in 13).

Amorim has since lost five of his seven Premier League matches at Old Trafford. These are more home reports than Jose Mourinho in two and a half years ago as United Boss (4 in 46 games) and no fewer than Louis van Gaal recorded in two seasons at the helm (5/38).

Amorim has lost 71.43% of his home games that are responsible for United in the competition – no other permanent Red Devil's boss has lost more than 23.6% (Ole Gunnar Solskjaer).

United has only taken 14 points of 13 league games under the Portuguese in general, and Neville thinks there can be more pain between now and the end of the season.

“I thought it would be better if Ruben came in, the enthusiasm of him and the new system, the players would buy in it and we would see a bouncing,” he told the Gary Neville Podcast.

“But we have seen the absolute opposite and it is a lot worse – and that is surprising.

“There will be a lot more pain against the end of the season and it will be harmful – because they clearly stay with Amorim.”

Although Neville expects Jim Ratcliffe regime to be patient with Amorim, he is on their care for the fact that players can encourage the coach if his methods do not produce results.

“The more you lose, the harder it is for the manager to convince the players of his idea,” Neville added. “He said,” I won't change my idea, “and you need the players to buy that.

“If they continue to lose and they are always criticized and the spotlights come more on them and the fans are unhappy, it creates a feeling and you can't keep losing.

“That is not possible. It will suppress the thoughts of the players into a point in which they will lose confidence in the idea, and it will damage you.

“He cannot change his approach now because he died in the ditch on it and rightly. But he has lost more matches at Manchester United than he lost in the last 75 at Sporting, which is simply alarming, so he will not enjoy his of this.

“It cannot continue as it is, and they have to start playing better in one way or another. At the moment it is a very regrettable situation when you see United playing.”
