Mathys Tel’s Spurs U-turn, Ange Postecoglou intervention and transfer clause

Mathys Tel completed a sensational U-turn and sealed his move to Tottenham Hotspur on loan.

Spurs -Baas Ange Postecoglou helped French Starlet Tel to convince Tottenham for Arsenal and Manchester United.

It meant that Tel and his representatives rented a private jet on Monday afternoon to fly to London to complete a medical prior to a Beat-the-Deadline loan movement. The dramatic turn came after the 19-year-old actually chose a permanent move to Tottenham last week for their Premier League rivals.

He came on loan until the end of the season with an option of £ 45 million to make it permanent in the summer – if he would sign a six -year -old deal – and take the number 11 shirt. He could even appear on time against Liverpool in the semi-final stage of the Carabao Cup this week when international approval arrives on time.

Tottenham had an £ 50 million offer for Tel that was accepted by Bayern last week, only for the French Under-21 International to reject the move. Bayern did not want to do a loan movement, although Arsenal and United were enthusiastic -but did a U -bend on the Deadline Day and accepted Tottenham's proposal.

Tottenham changed the goal posts to a straight loan offer with the hope that they can convince him to participate in the promise of more regular playing time than he received at Bayern. When Tel became more and more happy with what he saw and further discussions with Postecoglou, a transfer option of £ 45 million was set in the conditions of the deal.

Tel has made 83 performances for Bayern since he joined the French club Rennes in 2022, scored 16 goals and offers seven assists. The prospect of France is considered one of Europe's most sought after young players and the last minute of Tottenham to do the deal, shows that they are determined to support Postecoglou.

That was a large coup for Tottenham who saw a late step for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi fail. Tottenham did a research into Guehi this weekend, but was told that he was not for sale in this window, although he is only 18 months left on his contract.

That paved the way for Tottenham to Nick Lens -defender Kevin Danso from under the nose of Wolves on Sunday in a £ 20.8 million deal.

Tottenham has already signed Czech keeper Antonin Kinsky and South Korea wing player Yang Min-Hyeok, which was borrowed from QPR in this window.

Tottenham could go back for Guehi in the summer, but will be confronted with a serious competition from Chelsea who want to sign their former graduate Academy. Newcastle had rejected £ 65 million last summer, it is unlikely that Spurs that came in this window because his contract is running down and he only has a year left towards the end of the season.
