Mikel Arteta admits that his Arsenal team was too small to challenge Liverpool for the Prem title.
But the Gunners -Baas promised fans great summer spending after a fifth season without delivering silverware
Arsenal will sign Real Sociedad -midfielder Martin Zubimendi, a new No. 9 – with Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres and Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, the most important candidates – and are aimed at a huge push for Bilbao's left -sided Spain Star Nico Williams.
Boss Arteta said: “There are many factors. We knew from the start of the season that our team was super short.
“Because we are super short, we had some players who had a big chance to be injured, because that is what they had in the past seasons.
“So we knew that and we can't do anything about it.
“But we will do everything we can to improve the team and especially to improve the players we already have.
“That is not something we are just going to talk about now. If we had those meetings alone, we would do it very late.
“Whatever the market offers to give us a better chance to certainly win, we will try to do it.
“During the season there are many things you need to go your way.
“In the clinical moments, the ball touches the post and comes out or do you go inside? That is the fine margins.
“What we should try to do is strengthen the margins. The greater the margins are, even if those things happen, then it will be very difficult for the opposition.
“We have to do it our way. We have to be authentic with ourselves and what we believe, what we can do and what we have done. That's it.”
The impact of absence has been clear to Arsenal during the campaign.
Only William Saliba and Declan Rice started more than 30 Prem matches this season, with another quartet -Jurrien Timber, Thomas Partey, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard over the 30 -mark in total competition matches.
Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Mo Salah, on the other hand, started 104 out of 105 times between them, with another seven players who have characterized 30 or more times.
Arteta agreed: “That is a big thing to win trophies, you know, and they did extremely well.
“They have succeeded in that consistency, that level of players, a system, a coach, a stadium, a stadium that has re -created, and consistently created an incredible atmosphere for them.
“So you need many ingredients or you don't win the Premier League.
“That is the difficulty of it, and it is true that we never found it consistently this season because of the problems we had.” I don't want to use it as an excuse.
“We have the best competition in the world, yes, we all agree.
“But we were the only team from this competition in the park in the semi -final of the Champions League. That is the level.”
Arteta rejected any interest in the suggestion that if they win the Europa League, Spurs could claim that they had a more successful season, despite flirting with the drop zone.
He joked, “I only look at my own garden.”
But it is the Liverpool garden that he will look at this afternoon and Arteta gave: “What Arne did was very intelligent.
“He had the entire platform – a team that has been competing for the past 10 years and has won trophies. So he didn't have to do anything new.
“He has added his values and he has maintained a lot of things. He clearly gave his fingerprints to many things that are also very, very good.
“The most important thing is that he got the best out of the players.
“And the players who have to make the difference, they were constant, making the difference for them. That is capital to win every big trophy.
“But we want the kind of parties that they have now, big.
“I really want it, because that is what this club needs and has been so close to reaching the reach.
“Now we have to let it happen. We have often talked about it and will certainly continue with the same drive – or more – until we reach it.”
