Man Utd get to work on landing dream Ruben Amorim transfer despite competition

Manchester United are reportedly doing their utmost to stay ahead of Real Madrid in the race to sign Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies.

Davies is out of contract with Bayern at the end of the season and has been strongly linked with a move to Real. The Spanish giants decided not to pay the quoted €40 million fee to sign him this summer, but indicated they wanted to move once he became a free agent in June 2025.

Davies himself has been reluctant to make a public decision on his future, but signing a new contract with Bayern seems unlikely despite a €12m-a-year contract being on the table, especially since United made their interest known . United have long struggled with a problem at left-back, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia injured, and are reportedly keen to bring in a new player for Ruben Amorim.

Spanish outlet AS reports that it is 'mainly Manchester United' who are 'bidding hard' against Real for the Canadian international. Real are reportedly clear they will not enter a bidding war with United and believe things are being stirred by Davies' agent, Nedal Huoseh, who recently spoke publicly about the situation.

“Although the player has many options, we have not reached an agreement with any club,” Huoseh said. “Any information that suggests otherwise is incorrect. A new contract with Bayern could also be an option.”

His words followed reports that Davies had agreed to join Real once his Bayern deal expired. The 24-year-old has joined the German giants since joining from Vancouver Whitecaps in 2018 and has won five Bundesliga titles and one Champions League trophy, but there has been friction behind the scenes of late.

Huoseh felt compelled to defend his client in March after Bayern sporting director Max Eberl pressured him to sign a new contract. “It is unfair that Alphonso is now being attacked,” Huoseh told Bild. “A year ago we were close to an agreement. Then the entire club management was replaced. We heard nothing for seven months. Although I tried to contact the club during that period.”

Both Shaw and Malacia are set to return for United and that could influence the club's decision in the coming transfer windows. It has also been suggested that United's chances of signing Davies could be hampered by their lack of Champions League football after a miserable campaign under Erik ten Hag.

The club's appeal is not what it once was, with another top target, Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres, also currently playing and thriving in the Champions League. United sit 13th in the Premier League, four points clear of the top four, with Amorim facing a tough task to secure Champions League football for next season.
