Losing the Copa del Rey final to Barcelona means that Real Madrid only left La Liga to fight for this season, but their chances of coming up with the four-point deficit on their bitter rivals can be made more difficult as a result of what happened during the fiery final in La Cartuja.
The consequences of the match have centered itself from the three red cards that Real Madrid received in the final phase – and in particular that for Antonio Rudiger, who was fired in the dying stages of Extra Time to throw an object in the direction of referee Ricardo de Burgotxea.
Rudiger also had to be held after he had been shown red, and this was noted in the referee report that the Burgos Bergoetxea had submitted to the Spanish football federation. And this is bad news for Real Madrid, with Diario as a message that there is a real fear that the German defender can be suspended for the rest of the La Liga season.
Rudiger runs the risk of being banned for a period that varies from 4-12 games. And with five to go until the end of the domestic season, there is a chance that he will be excluded from the 2025-26 campaign, which would be a huge blow to Real Madrid.
They will be without Eder Militao because of an injury, and with David Alaba who has been struggling since his return to action after a long resignation, this can mean that Aurelien Tchouameni is being used again as a central defender. And if so, it would leave Real Madrid on options in midfield, given that Eduardo Camavinga is already excluded until next season.
Real Madrid will find out in the coming days what the punishment of Rudiger is, and also those of Lucas Vazquez and Jude Bellingham, who were the other two players who were sent in the aftermath of the Copa del Rey final.
