Rio Ferdinand believes that Ruben Amorim would like to make 10 signing sessions this summer, but accepts that the Manchester United team will not get a revision as required in a single transfer window.
Club legend Ferdinand believes that recruitment is “the biggest problem” at Old Trafford, with a majority of Amorim's current team not suitable for the coach's game plan.
But with the outcome of the Europa League final on Wednesday evening, which offers a route to the Champions League of next season, set to determine how much money is available to spend this summer, Ferdinand believes that club heads should be busy without performing the most important operation that is needed in one go.
“I think the manager, if he had his way, would like to get rid of double digits with the players,” said the TNT Sports Pundit before United's meeting with Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.
“But it is not realistic, I don't think, for the PSR system, as it is now. I don't think it is realistic for him to do that. I don't think he would like a huge, massive overhaul so quickly.” He would like to be in a perfect case scenario from which he gets 10 and gets 10.
Ferdinand cannot see a convincing argument for Amorim to leave his 3-4-2-1 system and insist that the issue remains players who do not have the attributes that are needed to perform exactly what their coach wants.
And although he believes that United players “fight the entire season” to make sure they are part of Amorim's plans in August, it will only be a few weeks after next season before those who are still in the team can be sure of their status.
Ferdinand added: “I think it is the entire season as an audition for this manager because he is suffocated in terms of what he can shake to pack with his own type of players.
