UEFA has renewed the Champions League this season and they are already considering making some changes prior to next season's tournament due to the collision of Arsenal with Real Madrid
UEFA is said to be considering changing an important rule prior to the Champions League of next season. UEFA has renewed the format this season and introduced a competition phase in which all 36 teams in the same group were arranged instead of separate.
The top eight teams went directly to the last 16, while the next 16 clubs met in the play-offs for a place in the next round. The current rules state that those in the top eight are guaranteed to play the second stage of their last 16 games at home.
However, that does not apply to the quarterfinals or semi -final and there has been some criticism of the fact that Arsenal will play the second stage of their collision with Real Madrid in the Bernabeu.
That is despite the fact that Arsenal finished third in the competition table, while Madrid finished 11th. And according to a report from the Daily Mail, UEFA will discuss whether they should change that next season.
It is claimed that there is a 'growing belief' that only second legs for the last 16 games are not enough of a reward for clubs that played in the competition phase.
Despite those worries, Arsenal is in a very strong position in the second stage of their collision with Madrid. Arsenal dominated the first stage with the Emirates, with two Declan Rice Free-Kicks and a Mikel Merino strike that gave them a 3-0 win.
Gunners -Baas Mikel Arteta, however, is well aware of the threat that Madrid poses in the Bernabeu. “I am very proud, we had a very complete and great achievements together and you need that in the organization and what we had to do to dominate the game and create Madrid problems,” he said after the first stage.
“This night is about both factors, one is the atmosphere that we have made 15 minutes before the kick -off is something I have never seen before, so playing with that energy, with that dedication with your crowd makes a huge difference.
“And then magical moments, individual moments that determine all competitions and the first two goals of Declan summarizes the night. We are going to enjoy the victory, because we have the feeling that we deserve that, but we know that it is just the peace and we will have to be even better in Madrid to continue.
'They were talking about it [the second leg] immediately. You know, great, enjoy it, and let's prepare ourselves very well on Saturday, and then we have the time to prepare for the next challenge in Madrid. But they are all very excited. “
And Madrid star Lucas Vazquez has warned Arsenal that they could get a historical comeback. “It is difficult, but if there is a team in the world that can turn this situation around, we are on our land for our home fans,” he maintained.
“We will see a different game on Wednesday and if we all stay together, we will get through it.”
