Van Dijk explains why he’s signing Liverpool deal as he follows Salah example

Liverpool Skipper makes a strong suggestion that his new contract will soon be announced and supporters tells about his long love affair with the club

Apart from showing the small print, Virgil van Dijk has confirmed that a new contract has been agreed and will be confirmed later this week. Class Act that he is, the club captain will pay his attention to checking the birthday of the Hillsborough's birthday is appropriate before he makes an official announcement about his future in Liverpool.

But Liverpool supporters can be reassured. It is sorted and before the trip to Leicester City On Sunday, Van Dijk Mohamed Salah will follow when signing a new two -year -old deal.

“At first I think that all the focus should go to Hillsborough's jubilee,” says Van Dijk. “I think that's the most important thing and then we'll see. The focus will still be on Leicester, but maybe there is something new. I know … but I don't know.”

And the broad smile on his face tells you everything. Van Dijk is pleased to stay in Anfield until at least the summer of 2027 – and probably longer. And he is happy to explain why he is staying in the club and why there was clearly no chance that he was tempted by a move to somewhere else, although the negotiations about a new agreement went to this late stage.

He explains: “I love the club, that is pretty clear. I think you can see that in the way I talk about the club, the way I work for the club in terms of what I do on the field on and next to the field, and that will always be the same.

“I think it is the whole combination. For many reasons I came to the club in 2017. Reasons such as how much it means for all scousers, for all fans in the whole world to be connected to Liverpool.

“Being successful with Liverpool, the culture of the club, everything that embodies Liverpool … that's just a part of me. That's why I am always proud when I wear that shirt, go outside and try to be the best version of myself in terms of the football player I am.”

Van Dijk will be 34 in July, but this season he had in the form of his life and scored a dramatic winner against West Ham United in Anfield on Sunday to ensure that the Premier League title of Liverpool remains a formality. The opener in the 2-1 victory was scored by Luis Diaz, but served by Salah, and Van Dijk believes that much more is coming from the Egyptian, now he has promised himself to Liverpool.

“I am clearly very happy for the club. And we are all connected to the club. You can't put it into words how consistent he is,” says Van Dijk. “Of course (in terms of) his figures, but the work percentage that he has introduced to the club for the past eight years is incredible and he can show it for a few years.”

And as will be confirmed later this week, Van Dijk will do the same next to Salah. It is prospect liverpool fans will enjoy.
