Arsenal close on SECOND summer transfer as Martin Zubimendi deal gets green light

Arsenal goes on the way to a busy window in the summer transfer, while Boss Mikel Arteta finally wants to end his five-year-old big trophy-dry and to bring the Gunners over the line

Arsenal is in line with the signing of Espanyol star Joan Garcia, with a deal for Martin Zubimendi that is getting closer.

The Gunners have passed a disappointing season and remain without trophy since 2020. They were short shots in the Premier League, were beaten from the FA Cup in the third round, were hammered by Newcastle in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup and saw Paris Saint-Germain beat in the last four of the Champions League.

As Mirror Football reported on Thursday, Baas Mikel Arteta is supported on the transfer market with great summer spending to finally get Arsenal over the line. The Hierarchy of Gunners is ready to launch a big overhaul to the team.

It is expected that a maximum of four important signing sessions will arrive at the window at the Emirates Stadium. At the top of the shopping list is a new striker to finally solve their problems in the attack.

But first a long-awaited movement for the real Sociedad star Zubimendi is on course to be packed. The aim of the Gunners in the midfielder was started by former sports director Edu after the Spaniard chose to move to Liverpool.

Arsenal is expected to activate the £ 51 million release clause in his contract, where the 26-year-old arrives early in the transfer window. The only concern is that Real Madrid, with the incoming Xabi Alonso at the helm, could make a late move.

And a second player also seems to be on his way to North Londs. According to The Independent, the Gunners are 'close to signing' Garcia by Espanyol. They had insisted to sign him last summer, but that chase was ultimately not successful, with the Premier League side now returning for him.

Garcia is impressed by Espanyol and this season helped the Catalan side to a midtable finish in La Liga. But he has made it clear that he feels ready to act, where Arsenal is increasingly likely to be his destination.

This meets a different priorities of Arteta for the summer window. The Gunners -Baas would have liked to permanently sign a new NO2 keeper to compete and put pressure on NO1 David Raya whose form has fallen badly in recent weeks.

The No. 1 priority remains a center with Arteta, a huge admirer of Newcastle's Alexander Isak. A more realistic target is sporty Lisbon striker Viktor Gyökkeres, who is admired by Arsenal's sports director Andrea Berta, or RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko who has closely monitored.

The Gunners tried to get Sesko last summer, but he chose to stay in Germany for another year. Arsenal then paid a tough price for non -signing a striker with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus who sustains long -term injuries this season.

Arteta knows that he should land a striker this summer and he also has a left wing player in his visor, with Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams on the radar. There is also a serious interest in Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen.

However, players should be loaded to get him and the center of the center – which has a buy -out clause of £ 50 million – is also concerned about going to a club where his playing time can be limited.
