Barcelona wants to be busy in the summer, and that should be the case in terms of both arrivals and departure. The first will probably depend on the latter because of the well -documented financial problems of the club, and a player who looks like freeing up salary space and possibly yields a fee is Inaki Pena.
Pena was pushed into the position of the starting goalkeeper in Barcelona when Marc-Andre ter Stegen sustained a serious knee injury in September. And he stayed as number one until the beginning of 2025, at what point he was moved by Wojciech Szczesny.
Hansi Flick has no Pena in his plans for next season, and because the goalkeeper no longer has a contract in 2026, it is inevitable that he will leave Barcelona in the summer. And the player himself now seems to be making the preparations for his exit.
As reported by Relo, Pena is about to sign with AC Talent, who already have Barcelona stars Pablo Torre and Hector Fort under their Roster of customers. He recently knew a apart with previous representatives Wakai Sports, while he wants to set himself up for a very important summer – perhaps the biggest of his career to date.
Galatasaray previous had Pena on loan and they are reportedly interested in signing him permanently. In the meantime, he could stay in La Liga, because real betis and Celta Vigo have him as an option to strengthen their goalkeeper departments for the following season.
Next season, Barcelona Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Wojciech Szczesny will have as goalkeeper options, which is why Pena is no longer needed by Flick. He seems to have accepted that his time in Catalonia is coming to an end, and it will be interesting to see where he ends before the start of the following season.
