A bewildered Thierry Henry admitted that he “never saw” what Leny Yoro did against Newcastle.
The teen -French defender played the full 90 minutes in St James' Park on Sunday.
The magpies ran Riot with a pounding 4-1 victory over Ruben Amorim's Sorry Red Devils.
But it was what Yoro, 19, did after the third goal of Newcastle – the second of Harvey Barnes – that stupidness hit Henry.
Barnes bounced on the slip of Noussair Mazraoui before he burst through three united defenders and shot in the upper corner.
United Trio Manuel Ugarte, Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen all fell into their heads.
But for some reason Yoro looked over to the assistant referee – apparently wanted a flag.
There was no suggestion of a mistake for the slip and it could not be offside, so Yoro's hopeful look was pure in vain.
But fellow countryman Henry was not impressed.
On Monday evening football the ex-Arsenal striker said: “Look at Yoro and what he asks for.
“I don't know why … I don't know what he is looking at.
“You look at the linesman who tries to see if he's going to save you … about what I don't know.
“I don't know if he thought there was a offside, I don't know if he thought someone – I – we – I don't know.
“We all know it's a goal. What are you looking at?
“I don't really know. I've never seen that before.
“We all know it's a goal.”
Jamie Carragher suggested that Henry's exaggerated facial expression would become a viral meme.
'Pathetic things'
But fans were unhappy with the Punditry of the legendary attacker and felt that the Yoro mocked.
One said: “I love Henry, but this is nonsense. Frozen is a clip frozen to make a cheap joke at a young center half. If Yoro plays for Fulham or Palace, they would not dream of using this 'analysis'.”
Another wrote: “What kind of analysis is this? I judge Henry's punditry, but this is not!”
A third answered: “A younger drag and performing are only because he now has the taste to be a viral meme. Pathetic stuff.”
A fourth comment: “This is strange of Henry, in this way after a young boy, is just strange, especially if you see defenders doing this after every goal I have ever seen. Probably scripted to get the clicks that have clearly worked.”
And a final user typed: “Defenders often look instinctively at lines. Henry knows this. Just pander at the crowd to tear a teenager apart about a freezer frame.”
