Liverpool star ordered to serve five-match international ban after losing appeal following altercation with fans

A player in Liverpool has lost his profession against a ban on five games after he brought his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Darwin Nunez van Uruguay was involved in a confrontation with Colombia fans after the Copa America Semi-Final last July, who won Colombia 1-0 to continue to the final.

He was then hit with a long suspension and was fined £ 15,145 ($ 20,000).

NUNEZ was one of the five Uruguay players who were forbidden for their actions, but after serving only two games of his suspension, the prohibition was temporarily lifted after a profession by the Uruguay Football Association.

Cas has now assessed the incident and has rejected NUNEZ's profession, which means that he will have to be three more games to complete his ban.

Cas announced their judgment and said: 'The panel discovered that in this case the principle of self -defense does not apply.

“The behavior of the players was a voluntary, violent and unjustified action that was contrary to Conmebol's disciplinary code.”

NUNEZ will now miss the following three world cup qualifications from Uruguay against Paraguay, Venezuela and Peru.

In the meantime, the other four Uruguay players – including Rodrigo Bentancur from Tottenham – have all served their bans and will be available for manager Marcelo Bielsa for next month's qualifications.

Nunez was seen who climbed in the stands after crowd of problems broke out in the vicinity of where the family members of the Uruguay team were.

Boss of the ex-Leds Bielsa at the time claimed that his players deserved an apology before the unshawful incident unfolded.

“How can you not defend your mother, your sister, a baby?” Asked Bielsa in a press conference.

“If they didn't do it, they would have been convicted by us all.”

Cas, however, seems to have seen things differently and Nunez will now have to complete his ban.

Uruguay is currently third in the South -American qualification table behind Argentina and Ecuador, and could seal their place at the World Cup of next year without Nunez in their next three games.
