Man United and Spurs fans face more travel chaos as major Bilbao station is CLOSED on day of the Europa League final

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur fans who attend the Europa League final in Bilbao are confronted with further Reischaos, because one of the most important stations in the city will be closed on the day of the competition.

Proponents of both parties have already had to find out for expensive flights and hotels to go to the Spanish city on 21 May for the collision in San Mames.

Authorities expect more than 80,000 fans in Bilbao for the final – of whom thousands will be without tickets.

Each club has been assigned nearly 15,000 seats, but there are much more set to record the atmosphere and to be part of a memorable opportunity for both teams.

Those in the city will have to find alternative routes to the stadium, because the San Mames metro station, which serves the stadium, will be closed on competition day from 3 p.m.

It comes out of fear of a 'falling in love' and overpopulation at the station, according to Bilbao Daily -Krant El Correo.

The publication reported that it would be the first time that the station will be completely closed on the day of a large event, where fans are not allowed to enter or leave.

More often trains run on the metro until 3 a.m., while the stadium is within walking distance of the city center.

But the closure contributes to the problems that supporters will encounter when they are in the city.

Local authorities will strive to keep United and to keep fans apart on the day of the competition. Their respective fan zones are on either side of the relatively small city to prevent mixes before the competition.

Residents are brace for an invasion, as they have 'never' confronted, according to reports in Spain, where El Correo suggests that man United and Spurs fans are ready to 'colonize' the Basque city.

Fans will spend thousands on flights and accommodation, in which airlines and hoteliers increase the price to take advantage of on request.

Direct return flights to Bilbao are available, but costs up to £ 1,700, according to Skyscanner.

Fans may have seen a more cost-effective travel method and a £ 108 one-way coach booked but the 26-hour travel time and the fixed departure in London may not be able to appeal to most traveling fans.

Other supporters may make the journey by car, but can still have to deal with slightly less than £ 200 in costs, with traveling through the expensive Channel Tunnel the only fastest route available.

In Bilbao, the city will probably go over, with El Correo the ability of the hotel industry to sleep only 15,000 people in their 5,000 hotel rooms.

The prices for rooms of whatever nature have risen for next Wednesday's showpiece, with almost every hotel in the city sold out, and those available were far above their regular value.

The winner of the final is also eligible for next season's Champions League.
