Paris Saint-Germain defeated Aston Villa 5-4 to total to reach the semi-final of the Champions League, but UEFA was able to punish them after items were thrown to Marcus Rashford
Paris Saint-Germain could be punished by UEFA after Marcus Rashford had thrown rockets on him during their Champions League collision with Aston Villa on Tuesday. PSG reached the semi-final of the competition after he had defeated Villa 5-4, after he won the first stage 3-1.
Villa, however, threatened to produce a stunning comeback in Villa Park, despite the fact that Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes scored early goals that PSG 5-1 set on aggregated. Villa, however, hit back with goals from Youri Tielemans, John McGinn and Ezri Konsa, but could not force the game to extra time.
There was an incident during the match where Rashford, who helped Konsa's goal with an excellent eruption in the box, seemed to have rockets thrown him from the end to him while he prepared to take a corner. Although the incident was not picked up on TV, Amazon Prime commentator Jon Champion noted that “items were thrown to” Rashford.
And former Premier League referee Keith Hackett has explained that PSG will probably be fined about the incident. “If UEFA observer has seen this, he will report the case and if proven, a sanction will be imposed,” Hackett told Football Insider.
“A fine is probably, instead of a ban.” Villa could also be confronted with sanctions from UEFA after a plastic bottle was thrown at referee Jose Maria Sanchez while the civil servant went through the tunnel after the game.
Although the bottle of Sanchez missed, he stopped briefly and stared at the Trinity Road position where he was thrown from. UEFA can also decide to pay Villa as a result of the incident.
Despite the fact that Villa was beaten from Europe, manager Unai Emery was full of praise for the performance of his party and urged them to ensure that they qualify for the tournament of the following season.
Villa is currently seventh in the Premier League, but they are only one point behind Manchester City in the fifth. “It is now the most important thing to get Europe again,” Emery told reporters after the game.
“The most important competition is the Champions League. The challenge we have in the last six games is to try to get Europe and the Champions League.
“Reaching this level is the next step ahead, I want to try to win with Aston Villa. We played two legs, we competed well. In the process we do here, tonight was the highest level we have reached.
“In the Champions League against teams like PSG is when we can test how we react. I am so happy and trust in how we increase our standards.
“The players have shown their ability to play at this level – Bayern Munich and beat PSG. Our ambition is to be consistent in every competition, with the players we have or add more quality players in case we need them.
“I am confident in our ability to get our goals this season, as long as we work hard until the last games we play.”
