Wrexham is linked to a shock movement for Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, and one of their stars has explained all his thoughts about the former international English international
A Wrexham star has made all its feelings about Jamie Vardy clearly clearly after reports that connect the Leicester City striker with a sensational step to the club of Hollywood. The former international in England enters the last months of his contract at the King Power Stadium, which leads to speculation about his future.
Wrexham and Leicester could play in the same division next season, with the Red Dragons hoping to secure automatic promotion of League One and the Foxes seem nailed to be banned from the Premier League. With the championship in their sights, claims are noticed that the co-owners of the Welsh side, Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney, can be prepared to splash the money to secure Vardy's signature.
The 38-year-old would be welcomed by at least one familiar face if he would make the switch to the racecourse ground, with ex-Leicester midfielder Matty James, an always present match in the starting XI of Phil Parkinson. Vardy signed three days after James in May 2012 was awarded to Manchester United in May 2012.
James spoke earlier about his admiration for his former teammate in March 2024 while he prepared for Leicester with Bristol City. Despite the coming years of Vardy, he also supported him to keep playing longer after he had praised his fitness levels.
“Vards is such a good boy and he is an incredible player in terms of where he was from the day he drew in Leicester,” James told Bristollive. “He immediately fit in – the way he was as a person, as a player, and he is such a giving man. He would do everything for everyone.
“The relationship that many boys had with him was probably the reason why he is still in the football club because of the loyalty he has shown. If you get a little older, you will be put a little in that box in terms of the more senior, experienced player.
“For everyone to see what Vards is doing, still plays and still as sharp as he is – he still has the speed at 37. For me it is great because hopefully there is still a little room for players who enter the last few years of their career that people are still knowing your value. It is great that he is still playing and I am sure he is still playing a little longer.”
James' comments about his own long lifespan turned out to be accurate. Although he was released by Bristol City last summer, he was picked up by Wrexham in October as a free agent. The 33-year-old has since made 29 performances for the Red Dragons and plays an important role in their urge for promotion to the championship.
After he initially had a short-term agreement, his performances were rewarded in December with a new long-term contract, so that he kept in Wrexham until at least the end of the 2025-26 season. “It is really good to be arranged and I am looking forward to playing as many games as I can and to help bring the club to the next level,” James said at the time.
In the meantime, one of the directors of the club has previously tackled rumors that connect Vardy with a move to Noord -Wales directly. When asked in May 2024 whether Wrexham could make an attempt to sign the Premier League winner, Humphrey Ker did not reign.
“There is nothing to say that Jamie Vardy would not be a great Wrexham player,” Ker told Sportbible. “It is not a name that I had mentioned earlier in the building, but you know, age and profile would not scare us.”
Wrexham is currently second in League One, only one point ahead of Rivals Wycombe Wanderers, while they want to seal their third consecutive promotion. Parkinson's side next host relegation-threatened Bristol Rovers on Good Friday.
