Europa League glory could save Tottenham’s season ‘big time’, says Cahill

Tottenham would “save their season” by winning the Europa League, according to two-time winner and former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill.

Spurs and Manchester United are the two English representatives in the quarterfinals of the competition, with both terms on level in their respective ties against Eintracht Frankfurt and Lyon.

With Champions League qualification offered, the Europa League offers the opportunity for the two parties to save something from difficult campaigns in the Premier League, with the 14th place United only one point and a place above Tottenham.

Cahill won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012, as well as the Europa League in 2013 and 2019.

The former defender knows that both parties have the opportunity to transform their seasons by lifting the trophy, but believes that Spurs -Baas Ange Postecoglou needs the lake than under Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim.

“Both teams struggled this season in the Premier League, not played very well at all,” he told Stats Perform. “So there is a lot on this trophy and this competition to close.

“Manchester United is of course steeped in history in terms of winning trophies. It would be interesting to see how the movements are in the summer in terms of players who come in and leave. So that is very much a project.

“And Tottenham, this would really save their season. This would save their season a lot. To take a trophy and qualify for the Champions League what they want to do. They don't get to both. So it's huge for Tottenham.

“In terms of Ange, I think it will be interesting to see if both the manager and the club are separating or not, whether they fall out of the competition.

“In the end I know for sure that he is fully focused on work in his hand. It is a distraction from the Premier League for them. The pressure is that you have to win this competition to save your season, and it is still in their hands.”

We hear to the place. Tomorrow this time, let's take it with you.#MUFC || #Uel pic.twitter.com/fcqxhhu2qh
