Real Madrid & Barca lose out on 18-year-old Spanish talent as contract is agreed

Real Madrid and Barcelona generally compete for the very best talents in football, and few escape from their grip. However, that is the case for the 18-year-old winger Antonio Cordero, who is on his way to the Premier League.

Barcelona initially interested in Cordero last summer when he started to make waves last season in the promotion of Malaga. They made a late offer of € 3 million last summer, but Cordero did not want to become a member of Barca Atletic and putting down a division after Malaga went up.

Cordero has proven that this season he is more than capable of Segunda level with Los Boquerones. Malaga made various renewal offers, but with Cordero from the contract this summer, Real Madrid also became interested. Barcelona was cited as favorites for his signature because of their relationship with Agent Pini Zahavi, but Newcastle was running out in the race earlier this year.

Now Fabrizio Romano reports that Cordero has agreed a pastor with Newcastle United to participate in a free with them this summer. Cordero has chosen to join the Magpies about the Spanish giants.

This season Cordero was the key in the survival bid of Malaga in Segunda, because they try to stabilize themselves in professional football after several seasons in the third layer. He started with about half of their matches and participated in just over half of their minutes, but is responsible for a third of their target contributions. Those figures translate as five goals and six assists into his 32 performances, which are mainly used on the left, but are also used on the right.

Newcastle could probably initially offer a higher wage package to Cordero, but possibly also a clearer path to action from the first team. Real Madrid has a stacked forward line to break in, while Barcelona also has a lot of talent to beat, both in the senior side and in their youth ranks.
